My Publisher
Henry Holt and Company
In business since 1885 and still going strong.

My Agent
No writer should be without one.
Ethan Ellenberg  knows what sells and how to sell it.

Kevan J. Attebery
Remember that little annoying animated paper clip thingy that you probably deleted from your MS Word help file?  This is the guy responsible.  One of the funniest artists I've seen, Kevan illustrated Lunchbox and the Aliens and is currently working on illustrations for Froonga Planet.  It's as if he read my mind while reading the manuscripts; his drawings capture my characters perfectly!  Check him out at

Some really cool writers I know
I belong to a writers critique group known as the Lonestar Nightwriters of Denton, Texas.  We're an affiliate of the
Oklahoma Writers Federation Inc
.   We meet weekly and share our stuff with each other, then pick it apart and make it better.  These are some of our members who have websites:

Berniece Rabe
A professional writer for nearly 40 years, Berniece is our "den mother," who until her recent move to Plano, hosted the group in her living room each week.  With 17 children's books (five of them Newbery award nominees) and numerous articles and scripts to her credit, no one is better qualified to mentor aspiring writers.

Gretchen Craig
Gretchen is the author of the historical novel Always and Forever, set in 1830's Louisiana.   She likes flowers, too.

Dan Case
Dan is the editor of the bimonthly e-zine Writing for Dollars.  He's also an author, cartoonist, illustrator, publisher, lecturer, and the most well-connected schmoozer in the entire midwest.  He is the co-author (with Peggy Fielding) of The Complete Guide to Writing and Selling Magazine Articles. This spring he and Chuck Sasser (see below) are traveling to the Pacific Northwest to interview people who claim to have seen Bigfoot, after which they will co-write a book about their adventure.

Susan Denney
Recently relocated to Wilkes-Barre, PA, Susan writes inspirational and instructional articles, and when she finds the time, hilarious novels..

A member of the Tulsa (OK) Nightwriters and OWFI:
Charles W. Sasser
In addition to a zillion articles on everything from how to change a diaper to how to garrote an enemy, Chuck recently published his 50th book.  Author of the Detatchment Delta series and Sniper (which was made into a movie), he's been a Navy sailor, an Army Special Forces soldier, a police officer, a war correspondent, and was the first man to fly a powered parachute from coast to coast.  This man is truly larger than life.  Or maybe just nuts .

Some cool musicians that I went to school with
I studied music for many years at the University of Southern Mississippi, Brigham Young University, and the University of North Texas. These guys were my classmates.  I can say "I knew them when..."

BYU
Arlen L. Card
Arlen has composed music for over 100 films.  He's also a great jazz saxophonist, and the younger brother of the famous author
Orson Scott Card

Sam Cardon
A dynamite keyboard player and Emmy-winning composer.  You've probably heard him on your local smooth jazz station.

Kurt Bestor
Kurt shares an Emmy award with Sam Cardon, his friend and business partner for many years now.  A terrific composer, pianist, and trumpeter.

USM and UNT
Steve Wiest
Steve and I were freshmen music majors together at the University of Southern Mississippi (back when the earth was still cooling).  Years later our paths crossed again in the graduate jazz studies program at North Texas, which is the Mecca for all serious jazz students. This man makes trombone playing look easy.  He's toured with Maynard Ferguson and Doc Severinsen, and has been on the music faculties of the University of Texas-Arlington, University of Wisconsin-Whitewater, and has recently joined the elite jazz faculty at the University of North Texas, teaching jazz trombone, jazz composition, and directing the new jazz trombone ensemble known as "The U-Tubes."  If you love cutting-edge big band jazz, his CD Excalibur needs to be in your collection.  All of the arrangements are by Steve himself, and they are some of the most creative things I've heard in years, along with his incredible trombone playing.  I got my copy in exchange for a signed copy of Lunchbox and the Aliens.
